What a time to be a Marvel fan. While WandaVision may have concluded, the seeds for bigger stories and a much larger universe have only been planted. Without further ado, here are 5 things we’ve learned following 9 episodes of WandaVision. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

#1 Scarlet Witch as the Strongest Avenger

After all the buildup that Captain Marvel was to become the strongest Avenger following Avengers: Endgame, it’s a bit of a shock to learn that Scarlet Witch is here to take the reins. In episode five, Monica Rambeau hinted that Wanda could have taken down Thanos if the Mad Titan hadn’t rain down missiles on his own army. Wanda’s time throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a journey of self-identity discovery. On the surface WandaVision is a story about the love between woman and robot. When you dig deeper, it’s a celebration of defying the odds, overcoming trauma and accepting the loss of a loved one.

In the first three phases of the MCU, it was Thor who repeatedly fixated to declare himself as the strongest Avenger in multiple films. As we sit here today, I can say with confidence that WandaVision has officially sealed the deal for Scarlet Witch as the strongest member of the Avengers. We know Scarlet Witch will be making her next appearance in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. I expect the film to further cement Wanda and her elite abilities. I also cannot wait for Thor to return to Earth and confront the reality that he is now a couple of notches below the top of the MCU totem pole.

#2 Chaos Magic Has Arrived

Much more than witches and the Hell dimension have officially entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chaos Magic has officially entered the MCU moving forward. This isn’t entirely new. We’ve seen Doctor Strange utilize sorcerer magic (orange). We’ve seen Agatha utilize dark magic (purple) and her family utilize witch magic (blue). Agatha is clearly jealous of Wanda’s capabilities, an area she has spent significant amounts of training. Why is Chaos Magic (red) so important? It’s the most powerful form of magic in the MCU.

Chaos Magic can manipulate, warp and reconstruct the very fabric of existence. In the comics, it’s actually Agatha Harkness who trains Wanda’s use of Chaos Magic. When we saw Wanda meet the Mind Stone, it was made very clear that it only amplified her powers. Not only is this a direct sign that Wanda is a mutant, but I think it’s very clear that Doctor Strange is going to to be helping Wanda harness that magic. Not many sorcerers are able to harness such power, therefore it makes complete sense for Master of the Mystic Arts to do his best Professor Charles Xavier impression and help her utilize that power for good in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel.

#3 SWORD is Then, Now and the Future

WandaVision has planted the seeds for a lot of Marvel content down the line. It has also given us much deeper insight into what SWORD is and what it means moving forward. In the films, SWORD was first revealed to viewers during a post-credit scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home. In WandaVision, we learn that SWORD has been around for much longer than previously expected. In the comics, SWORD has major implications with the Secret Invasion storyline. SWORD has direct ties to X-MEN, Captain Marvel and other major cosmic threats.

There are way more questions than answers right now regarding the presence of SWORD. The biggest question I have is this: where the heck was SWORD during the Battle for New York? Where were they when Thanos was invading Wakanda during Avengers: Infinity War? Director Hayward made it clear in episode four that SWORD heavily emphasized research in nanotech after the snap. Was Tony Stark involved in helping SWORD get off the ground at some point? Buckle up Marvel fans. SWORD is about to have a huge presence in the MCU moving forward, especially with the upcoming Captain Marvel 2.

#4 The Multiverse and Spider-Man 3

In similar respects with The Mandalorian, WandaVision spent a lot of time planting the seeds for many different aspects of the MCU going forward. But how does this show mean with what’s coming up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s very clear that WandaVision will have a huge ripple with Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will heavily center around the multiverse Wanda Maximoff has created. Even more interesting is the fact that we see hexagons drawn onto the title reveal with Spider-Man 3.

While it was revealed that the big bad in WandaVision was Agatha Harkness, that doesn’t mean we won’t see Mephisto down the line in film or TV. In the comics, Mephisto has had implications with both the Scarlet Witch and Spider-Man. With his identity exposed, could we see Spider-Man make a deal with the devil to keep his loved ones safe? Was Agatha Harkness attempting to resurrect Mephisto by absorbing the life of Wanda’s children? We all know that Kevin Feige always has a bigger plan in place but it’s going to take quite some time before this ball of yarn begins to unravel.

#5 Photon’s Presence in the MCU

The OG’s in Tony and Steve have left their mark in comic book movie world. Thus, it’s time for a new age of superhero to take over the MCU. Enter Monica Rambeau’s Photon, whose transformation was one of my favorite moments in WandaVision. Click here to see the top 10 moments from Wandavision! With Monica cast in Captain Marvel 2, what does it mean moving forward? The beef between the two characters has major implications moving forward.

When we first met Monica in Captain Marvel, she was a wide eyed, optimistic girl who had clear admiration for Carol Danvers. In WandaVision, we learn that something has clearly damaged that relationship before the snap went down. While they will eventually fight alongside each other, I expect Monica and Carol to go toe to toe in Captain Marvel 2. There were many complaints about Captain Marvel as a film. One of the largest of them included lack of character development with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers. I expect Monica Rambeau’s Photon to be the tool that will further flesh out Carol Danvers’ character in Captain Marvel 2.
