A full slate of games on Halloween brought plenty of tricks for the top ranked teams with upsets abound. Both top ranked teams from last week suffered big losses as the Packers gave the Cardinals their first loss and the Saints upset the Bucs behind a third string QB. Meanwhile, the Bengals fell off the rankings after following up a huge win with a loss to the Jets.
1. Los Angeles Rams 7-1
Previous ranking- 4
Matthew Stafford threw another 3 TDs as the Rams easily rolled past the Texans on the road. L.A. held a 38-0 lead into the fourth quarter before they started to ease off. However, the biggest news for the Rams this week is their trade for former All-Pro Von Miller. Miller will join a defensive line that already features arguably the best non-QB in the game in Aaron Donald. The Rams have pushed all their chips to the center.
2. Green Bay Packers 7-1
Previous ranking- 7
The Packers finally handed the Cardinals their first loss and did it on the road on a short week to boot. Rasul Douglas picked off Kyler Murray with 12 seconds left in the game and on second and goal. It was Green Bay’s second interception of Murray and their third total takeaway. The Packers are winning without Aaron Rodgers having to play Superman (just 184 yards and 2 TDs), and that’s a scary thought.
3. Dallas Cowboys 6-1
Previous ranking- 6
Dallas came out of its Bye with a game on the road in Minnesota and down their starting quarterback. It didn’t matter as backup QB Cooper Rush found Amari Cooper for the game winning score with 51 seconds left. The Cowboy defense suffocated the Vikings offense, holding them to 1-13 on third down. Dallas has struggled mightily in the past when they were missing Dak Prescott. They didn’t here.
4. Arizona Cardinals 7-1
Previous ranking- 1
Once again, the ‘72 Dolphins can rest easy, as there will be no perfect season after the Cardinals suffered their first loss. Three turnovers sunk Arizona, culminating in a game sealing interception. Green Bay added 10 points off of the previous turnovers before that pick at the end, including a field goal after a muffed punt.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 5-2
Previous ranking- 2
The Bucs played an ugly game on the road in New Orleans, falling to the Saints by a score of 36-27. Tampa Bay turned it over three times, including two picks from Tom Brady, and committed 11 penalties for 99 yards. Brady rallied the Bucs after trailing 23-7 early in the second half and finished with 4 TDs, but he threw a backbreaking pick six with just 1:24 left while down two points.
6. Buffalo Bills 5-2
Previous ranking- 8
The Bills rode a strong second half, including a 16 point fourth quarter, to victory over the Dolphins at home. Buffalo shrugged off a slow first half in which they only could manage a field goal and ripped off 23 points after halftime. Josh Allen led the way with two second half TDs to bury any potential chance of a Dolphins upset
7. New Orleans Saints 5-2
Previous ranking- Honorable Mention
The Saints had their most impressive win of the season, as they won behind a third string QB and picked off Tom Brady twice including a pick six. Trevor Siemian was forced to enter the game after Jameis Winston suffered an ACL injury and backup Taysom Hill was already out with an injury. Siemian finished 16/29 for 159 yards with a score in a little over two quarters of work. He led New Orleans on five scoring drives and did not commit a turnover.
8. Baltimore Ravens 5-2
Previous ranking- 9
Baltimore had its Bye this week. The Ravens will host the Vikings on Sunday.
9. Tennessee Titans 6-2
Previous ranking- 3
The Titans picked off Carson Wentz twice, with a pick six late in the fourth and a pick on the first drive in overtime to set up a 34-32 win. However, the win was incredibly costly, as star running back Derrick Henry is expected to miss the rest of the season after requiring surgery on his foot. Henry was the league leader in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and total offensive touchdowns for a non-QB. Newly signed 36-year-old Adrian Peterson will try to fill the void.
10. Las Vegas Raiders 5-2
Previous ranking- 10
Las Vegas had its Bye this week. The Raiders will go on the road to face the Giants on Sunday.
