Sunday night, the Eagles were hit by the injury bug HARD. Somehow, the Eagles were able to stay in the game with backups, but unfortunately lost in the end. Yesterday we learned more about these injuries and how much it will effect the Eagles this season. So far two players official injury reports have been released.

Corey Clement

Corey Clement suffered this shoulder injury on the opening kickoff to start the second half, where he fumbled the ball. Luckily Clement is the 4th string running back on the roster, so his absence shouldn’t play too much of a loss. However, Clement is a key component of the special teams. The Eagles will have to find a replacement before Sunday’s game. Miles Sanders and Jordan Howard will need to step up their game. The Eagles rushing attack has been nearly non-existent the first two games. This is something the Eagles need to fix as soon as possible.

Tim Jernigan

Now this injury is more significant than Clement. The Eagles have lost two DT’s in the first two weeks in the NFL. First losing Malik Jackson for the year with a foot injury and now losing Tim Jernigan for 4-6 weeks. The Eagles got somewhat lucky again with Jernigan able to return later in the season.

The Eagles now have a big decision to make regarding the open DT spot. Will they rely on newly acquired Akeem Smith and Hassan Ridgeway? Or will they look to make a move either a trade or another signing? I believe they will try the remaining rotation this Sunday when the Detroit Lions come into town. I believe, however, that we will see a new face soon in the defensive line group. The Eagles still have one of the best DT in the league in Fletcher Cox, so the job should be a little easier for whoever fills the other starting DT role.

Sunday night was brutal and full of all types of emotions. Hopefully the Eagles injury bug goes away and the Eagles can keep their eyes set on one goal, Super Bowl 53.
