Carolina Panthers @ DALLAS COWBOYS

The Cowboys had a huge day on the ground as they rushed for 245 yards against the then-ranked number one defense and handed the Panthers their first loss of the season. Ezekiel Elliott led the way with 143 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. It was Elliott’s first 100 yard game of the season and just his third since the start of 2020. Dak Prescott rushed for 35 yards and tossed 4 touchdowns through the air as well in the 36-28 win.

The Dallas defense picked off Sam Darnold twice and sacked the Panthers QB five times. Trevon Diggs collected both interceptions, bringing his season total to five and giving him at least one in every game this season. The second year corner had just three picks in 12 games last season.

WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM @ Atlanta Falcons

A late touchdown pass from Taylor Heinicke to J.D. McKissic gave Washington the lead with 33 seconds left in an ultimate 34-30 win. Heinicke finished with 290 yards and 3 touchdowns on 23/33 passing with no turnovers. One of Heinicke’s TD passes was a tremendous throw and catch by Terry McLaurin in the end zone for a 17 yard score. McLaurin finished with two scores and 123 yards on six catches.

The Washington defense meanwhile struggled to contain Matt Ryan and the Atlanta passing attack. Ryan threw for 283 yards and 4 touchdowns on the day and was only sacked once. Codarelle Patterson led the way with three receiving touchdowns and 82 yards on five catches. It was Patterson’s first multi-touchdown performance on offense since December 29th of 2013. He had no receiving touchdowns in 15 games last season.

Andy Reid’s offense gashed his former team for a total of 471 yards with over 8 yards per pass and over 6 yards per rush. Patrick Mahomes three for five touchdowns and completed 24/30 passes for 278 yards.

Philadelphia’s offense moved the ball well but struggled in the red zone and had three touchdowns called back on penalties. Jalen Hurts finished with 387 yards passing with two touchdowns and DeVonta Smith hauled in seven passes for 122 yards. However, the Eagles offense finished 3-6 in the red zone while the Chiefs finished a perfect 5-5.
