Recap

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES @ Atlanta Falcons

New head coach Nick Sirianni’s debut could not have gone better, as the Eagles outplayed the Falcons in all facets of the game and cruised to a 32-6 victory. Jalen Hurts was impressive in his debut as QB1, finishing with 264 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers. Hurts also added 62 rushing yards on seven attempts to complement Miles Sanders and rookie Kenneth Gainwell in a 173 yards rushing total for Philadelphia. Heisman trophy winner DeVonta Smith caught six passes for 71 yards and a touchdown in his NFL debut.

The Eagles defense pressured Matt Ryan all day and eventually totaled three sacks, two from Javon Hargrave. Ryan finished 21-35 for 164 yards and no touchdowns. Star rookie tight end Kyle Pitts totaled just 31 yards on five catches. Atlanta did not score in the second half as the Eagle pass rush began to tee off with a big lead.

Week 2 Opponent- San Francisco 49ers at home at 1:00 Sunday

DALLAS COWBOYS @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Cowboys and Dak Prescott played well in the opening game of the NFL season, but ultimately Tom Brady led a late comeback to send Dallas to 0-1 by a final score of 31-29. Prescott threw the ball an astounding 58 times with 42 completions for 403 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Ezekiel Elliott’s struggles from last season carried over, as he logged just 33 yards on eleven carries.

The Dallas defense forced four total turnovers, including picking off Brady twice. However, they still allowed Brady to throw for four touchdowns and 379 yards on 32-50 passing. Ryan Succop’s 36 yard field goal that left two seconds left on the clock sunk the Cowboys’ chance at an upset of the defending champions.

Week 2 Opponent- @Los Angeles Chargers, 4:25 on Sunday

Los Angeles Chargers @ WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM

Washington had a very inauspicious start to their season, as they dropped the game 20-16 after starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered a hip injury that landed him on injured reserve after throwing just six passes. Taylor Heinicke came into the game and finished 11-15 for 122 yards and a touchdown. He will most likely be the starter for at least the next three weeks, barring a free agent signing.

The Football Team defense ultimately couldn’t hold the lead in a low scoring game in the fourth quarter. A Washington fumble by Antonio Gibson gave the Chargers the ball on the three yard line and Justin Herbert quickly hit Mike Williams for the go ahead touchdown.

Week 2 Opponent- New York Giants at home, 8:20 on Thursday

Denver Broncos @ NEW YORK GIANTS

The Giants started the season with a whimper, falling 27-13 to the Broncos and their new starting QB Teddy Bridgewater. New York starter Daniel Jones fumbled in the third quarter, showing that his turnover problems have carried over at least to start 2021. Jones fumbled eleven times in 2020 which was tied for the league lead with Derek Carr.

Saquon Barkley struggled in his return from a season ending injury early in 2020. The star running back totaled just 26 yards on 10 carries and had just one catch for one yard. Conversely, Denver ran the ball extremely well, totaling 165 yards on 28 combined carries for a touchdown. Through the air, Bridgewater totaled 264 yards and two touchdowns against the Giant defense.
