We have been watching the Philadelphia Union play some stellar matches of soccer this season. It is no surprise that the team has cinched a spot in the playoffs. With their win last Saturday against Atlanta United, they not only cinched their playoff spot, but also regained first place in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Eastern Conference.

On top of the league
For the fifth week this year, coach Jim Curtain was named “Coach of the Week,” while Kacper Przybylko and Haris Medunjanin both earned Team Players of the Week. Przybylko is also officially tied for sixth overall in the league in goals with 13 and is now third on the Union’s all-time goals in a single season list. Another key player for the team is Kai Wagner, who picked up his eighth assist against Atlanta United and now leads all MLS defenders in assists. Additionally, he is tied with Sheanon Williams for the all-time club record for single-season assists by a defender.
Eight Union players receive international call-ups
Last Friday, eight players received call-ups ahead of this week’s FIFA international window. Brenden Aaronson, Matt Freese, Auston Trusty, and Mark McKenzie all got the call for the United States Under-23 squad. Andre Blake (Jamaica), Warren Creavalle (Guyana), Marco Fabian (Mexico), and Olivier Mbaizo (Cameroon Under-23) got recognition as well.
