Crossover Culture
“Philadelphia is not only a basketball city, but it is a city with a deep, vibrant and diverse culture,” Philadelphia 76ers President Chris Heck said. “With ‘76ers Crossover,’ we aim to celebrate the intersection of basketball throughout the city and across the globe with all of the cultural lifestyle elements that make Philadelphia spectacular – from the arts, to music and fashion, to cuisine.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Reebok to launch our ‘76ers Crossover’ platform with our first-ever Art Exhibition,” said Philadelphia 76ers Chief Marketing Officer Katie O’Reilly. “It is an honor to showcase the work of some incredible artists from around the world as they both honor the history of our franchise and celebrate the 2019-20 Philadelphia 76ers. During this exciting time for our organization, we are proud to use the power of art and basketball to connect with our fans here in Philadelphia.”
The Art Exhibition will display more than 200 pieces produced by artists from 13 different countries. Designed to showcase the crossover between basketball, art and the City of Philadelphia, the Exhibition will illustrate the history of Philadelphia 76ers basketball from Wilt Chamberlain, to Julius Erving, to the 2019-20 76ers. To curate the artwork created locally and across the world, the 76ers partnered with Conscious Basketball; a collection of artists who produce hoops art based on their love for the game of basketball.
Fans at the event will not only see the displayed art but will have the opportunity to see the artists at work. Throughout the duration of the event, Reebok will live-paint all-white Reebok classics. The Art Exhibition will launch a silent auction via the 76ers App where fans can bid on some of their favorite pieces, including a specially painted one-of-a-kind Red Bull cooler. Additionally, fans can bid on an exclusive series of 2017-18 City Edition jerseys that will serve as canvases for local artists to showcase unique designs, curated by @Peopledelphia’s – an Instagram page known for its authentic portrayal of the cultural vibe of the city.
