PHILLIES

The Phillies started their week off with a bang, beating the Nats on Tuesday by a final score of 8-2 in Bryce Harper’s return to Washington. Bryce, being Bryce, launched a glorious 458-foot, two run home run to right field followed by an iconic bat-flip. The Phils dropped the second game of the series to Washington 9-8 due in large part to a rough Aaron Nola outing and David Robertson walking in the winning run after the Phils battled back into the game. The team then returned home to take two of three from the Twins with the highlight being Zach Eflin’s brilliant start on Sunday in which he went 7 innings with 5 strikeouts and one run allowed courtesy of a Max Kepler home run to start the game. 

Upcoming games: Three at home vs. the Nationals, followed by a three game road trip to Miami

METS

The Mets opened their week on the road with a three game sweep of the Marlins, powered by rookie first baseman Pete Alonso’s first career home run and 4 RBIs in the series. So far on the season, Alonso is hitting .382 with 3 HRs and 11 RBIs. They then returned home to drop two of three to the Nationals, being shutout on Thursday 4-0 and seeing their ninth inning rally fall short on Sunday in a 12-9 loss.

Upcoming games: Two at home against the Minnesota Twins, followed by a long road trip that begins with four in Atlanta.

BRAVES

After being swept by the Phillies to start the season, the Braves rebounded to sweep the Cubs at home, outscoring Chicago 23-8 in three games. Continuing the week at home, Atlanta was able to take two of three from the Marlins. They won the first game in a 4-0 shutout behind Kevin Gausman’s 7 innings with 2 hits and 7 strikeouts.

Upcoming Games: Three on the road against the Colorado Rockies, then four at home against the Mets

NATIONALS

After splitting a two game series with the Phillies, the Nats took two of three from the Mets on the road thanks in part to Stephen Strasburg’s strong outing on Thursday. Strasburg went 6 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and racking up 9 strikeouts en route to a 4-0 Nationals shutout.

Upcoming Games: Three in Philadelphia, followed by three at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

MARLINS

The poor Marlins. They went 1-5 on the week with the sole victory coming on Saturday with a 4-2 win over Atlanta. Old friend Jorge Alfaro homered twice in the game, his first career multi-HR game.
