Joel Embiid’s Dominance
All throughout the new year, the Philadelphia MVP candidate has dominated the NBA. In the month of January, Joel Embiid is averaging 34.5 points per game, 10.8 rebounds, a career-high 4.8 assists per game, 1.5 blocks per game, and shooting 54.8% from the field. What’s more, the 76ers score 114.0 points per 100 possessions when Embiid is on the floor, which equates to a top tier offensive rating. Evidently, Embiid’s dominant play has resulted in much success for Philadelphia. The Sixers are 11-5 in the new year and were on a seven-game win streak earlier this month. Consequently, Joel finds himself ranked third on NBA.com’s MVP ladder.
Joel Embiid will play his 20th consecutive game tonight, the 2nd longest streak in his career. And it has been the most dominant steak of his career. 16 of the 19 games in the streak he has scored 30+. Averaging 33.3/ 10.7/ 4.3 shooting .541/ .375/ .841. Dominating every night.

Over the past few weeks, Embiid put up career numbers that can be compared with the greats. In the last four games, the big fella scored the most points (170) by a center since the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1972. To boot, Joel recorded a triple-double of 31 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists on January 3rd against the Houston Rockets. To top this, “EMVPiid” tied his career high of 50 points vs. the Orlando Magic on January 19th. Also, JoJo’s performance on the road has been phenomenal. A few weeks ago, Joel tallied 11 consecutive 30+ point performances on the road, which tied the great Michael Jordan in 1996.
As a result of Joel Embiid’s pure dominance, he was rewarded with a starting spot on the 2022 all-star team. Considering what he’s done recently, this selection is an absolute no brainer.
