In other words the Eagles currently are a dumpster fire.

Usually in these game previews I write a little opening, find some interesting things for you to watch for, give what I believe to be the keys for victory, and give a prediction. It’s a pretty simple template for articles, and yet this week there is really nothing to write about.  Generally the Eagles games are the most exciting things happening for 16 weekends September through December (Sometimes January and two times in February!)

This week though, the game has taken second fiddle to the constantly evolving, seemingly never ending soap opera that the Philadelphia Eagles have turned into. Last week the drama was overshadowed because of the vile division foe, the Dallas Cowboys. This week the Eagles play the Bills and well, who cares? On Sunday afternoon it’ll feel like you’ve been watching “Days of Our Lives” for the past few weeks and suddenly a football game is going to break out on your TV. You’ll look around and think, “Am I living one of those football dramas, like Friday Night Lights? No? I’m watching actual NFL? Wow… Cool!”

For those of you who have somehow managed to avoid the drama, let’s take a look at what has transpired over the last two weeks.

Friday 10/11. Zach Brown trashes known Eagle killer Kirk Cousins: Eagles Linebacker Zach Brown gave this quote two days before the Eagles played the Vikings.

“Cousins, I think every defense is going to want that guy to throw the ball. For me, that’s probably the weakest part of their offense is him. … You just want them to pass the ball. You want Kirk Cousins to get it in his hands.”

Kirk then proceeded to have another career day (333 Yards, 4 TDs and 1 INT) against the Eagles. Unsurprisingly Zach did not answer any questions surrounding Kirk Cousins after the game on Sunday.

-Sunday 10/13: Vikings destroy Eagles 38-20.

-Monday Morning 10/14 around 8:00 AM. Doug guarantees victory over the Cowboys: Doug Pederson was being interviewed on the WIP Morning show, and unprompted by any of the morning team, said:

“We’re going down to Dallas, and our guys are gonna be ready to play. And we’re gonna win that football game and when we do we’re in first place in the NFC East.”

-Monday 10/14 around 12:00 PM. Doug takes back his guarantee: One of the main things that was asked about at Doug’s weekly press conference was his proclamation that the Eagles were going to win on Sunday. Doug then backpedaled when asked this “Did you guarantee a win?”

“Never said that. I never said that. Never said guarantee a win. I’d never do that”

Know what’s worse than guaranteeing a win the first place? Guaranteeing a win then backtracking.

-Monday 10/14 around 4:30 PM. Eagles Release Zach Brown: The Eagles decided to cut starting linebacker and key vocalist Zach Brown. It’s hard to see this as anything more than a knee-jerk reaction to a stupid comment that made the Eagles loss to the Vikings even harder to take.

-Wednesday 10/16. Via ESPN’s Josina Anderson, an anonymous Eagles player fires at his own team:

“We need to make (bleep) simpler. Sometimes we need to just handle what is manageable. Even Peyton Manning knew when to check it down.”

The same player had this to say about the Eagles missing out on Jalen Ramsey.

“We dropped the ball. I don’t even want to talk about that (bleep). Everybody knew what it was going to take to get him. I could’ve told you that.”

Not really inspiring words, especially considering that the Cowboys game was less than a week away.

-Friday 10/18. Alshon Jeffery amongst others is asked if he is the anonymous source: Alshon has a working relationship with Josina Anderson, and she has reported many things about him in the past. His response,

Sounds like an extremely strong denial to me.

-Sunday 10/20. Eagles completely destroyed by Cowboys 37-10: The game was actually worse than what the score indicated. Everything, included effort, was outdone by the Cowboys.

-Sunday 10/20 Postgame. Lane Johnson gives some insight to the Eagles struggles. He said that “Maybe people will now be held accountable for being late to meetings and late to practice”

-Monday 10/21. Howard Eskin reports that Alshon Jeffery is the anonymous source: Howard will go out of his way to lie and cover for the Eagles any chance that he gets. When he reports something negative on the Eagles. I tend to believe it.

-Monday 10/21. Eagles cut Orlando Scandrick: The former Cowboy was released the day after the Cowboys game.

-Wednesday 10/23. Carson Wentz asked about the anonymous source comments during his press conference. Carson, as always, was a professional and declined to speak on anything through the media. Still the focus needs to be on the Buffalo Bills, unnamed sources.

-Wednesday 10/23. A report comes out that Fletcher Cox had his home and car bashed the week before: Fletcher had an ex boyfriend of a woman he is currently dating stop by his home and smash it up with a baseball bat while she was in his home. Subsequently, Fletcher missed practice the following day with an “illness”

-Friday 10/25. Recently cut Orlando Scandrick goes off on Malcolm Jenkins and the entire Eagles organization:

Here is the full interview.

Orlando is an obviously disgruntled former employee who is focused on making some headlines in the media world to try to land a media job, but that doesn’t mean what he said isn’t true.

Friday 10/25. Malcolm Jenkins has some choice words for Orlando. One of Orlando’s main targets was Malcolm Jenkins, who started the year off by holding out for a new contract that he ultimately did not receive. Malcolm basically said that he did not care what people who were no longer on the team were saying.

There has been more drama with this team in the last two weeks than a full season of Friday Night Lights. How could anyone be prepared to play a football game when they have all this other nonsense to worry about? Until this team gets their house in order I would not expect any watchable product on the field. They better get it figured out and figured out fast.
